SueWhen Sue made a guitar out of a cardboard box and some rubber bands and was able to get a tune out of it, her grandparents saw the interest to play and bought her an acoustic guitar. As a teenager, her big claim to fame was playing clarinet with the John Hersey High School Marching Band on the opening day of the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field – the vocalist that day was Sarah Vaughan! Sue taught herself piano and mostly played pop and classical for her own enjoyment until she met up with a few co-workers who wanted to jam….on rock ‘n roll songs! Being a classical music fan and died-in-the-wool folkie (Gordon Lightfoot and James Taylor devotee) she had never had time for rock ‘n roll. But she soon learned to appreciate it – ok maybe the ribbing she got from band mates had something to do with it. This original group, Grateful We’re Not Ed, played with microphones stuck in upright vacuum cleaners and lamp stands! They slowly morphed into a rock ‘n roll band and Banned From the Basement was born! They played mostly at work functions. In 2005, after a long hiatus, Sue rejoined her old band mate Paul Stanners, learned to play bass guitar and now absolutely LOVES to rock it out on bass or keyboards in 2MenyGirls!
